Long-lasting makeup comes from layers that work together: a clean, moisturised base, a primer suited to your skin, thin layers of product, loose powder on oily areas and a setting spray to finish. Waterproof eye products and a transfer-proof lip complete the look.
Makeup that looks fresh in the morning and patchy by afternoon is one of the most common concerns we hear, especially during summer and the wedding season. The solution is rarely a single product. It is the order and the method.
1. Prepare the skin
Cleanse, then apply a light, water-based moisturiser and give it a few minutes to absorb. Dry patches make makeup cling, while excess oil makes it slide. A gel texture such as Hydra Boost Water Moisturizing Gel works well in humid weather.
2. Choose the right primer
| Skin type | Primer to use |
|---|---|
| Oily or combination | Mattifying, such as Mattifying Primer Tube |
| Visible pores or texture | Blurring, such as Pore Minimizer Blur Primer |
| Bridal and camera work | Photogenic, such as HD Studio Photogenic Primer |
Use a small amount and focus on the T-zone, where makeup usually breaks down first.
3. Apply in thin layers
Several thin layers last far longer than one heavy layer. Press foundation and concealer into the skin with a damp blender rather than wiping it across. Allow each layer to settle before adding the next.
4. Set with powder, then spray
Press Perfecting Loose Powder onto the forehead, nose, chin and under the eyes. Then mist a setting spray from arm's length to melt the powder into the skin.

5. Waterproof the eyes and lips
Eyes and lips fade first. Use a water-resistant kajal such as Aqua Resist Bold Kajal, a water-resistant mascara such as High Rise Water Resistant Mascara Blue, and a transfer-proof lip such as Non Transfer Lip Gloss.
Touch-ups through the day
Blot oil with a tissue before adding more powder. Adding powder over oil creates a heavy, cakey finish. A quick mist of setting spray revives the base.
Frequently asked questions
Is primer or setting spray more important?
They do different jobs. Primer helps makeup grip the skin, and setting spray locks the finished look. For long hours, use both.
Why does my makeup look cakey by evening?
Usually too many thick layers, or powder added over oil. Apply thin layers, and blot before you touch up.
Can I use a makeup fixer without powder?
Yes, especially on dry skin. On oily skin, a light layer of loose powder on the T-zone before spraying helps makeup last longer.
